Surveillance of Australian Workplace Based Respiratory Events

The SABRE Project in New South Wales

What are the project aims?

  • To develop and maintain a notification scheme involving thoracic and occupational physicians, and general practitioners with an interest in occupational medicine.

  • To determine the incidence of work related respiratory disease and inhalational injury in NSW.

  • To disseminate information about the burden of occupational respiratory disease in NSW.

Such a system has never existed before in NSW and has the potential to decrease the incidence of occupational respiratory disease and to be of significant public health benefit.
